PLC - Implementing the PLC Process

  Implementing the PLC Process

MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT FOR ALL STUDENTS

Here we are at the stage when we will finally complete one full cycle of the PLC process you see in the graphic above. We have set goals for learning, planned a common assessment, planned behavior strategies, and taught lessons. Now it is time to look at the results of our efforts and determine the needs of the students. Have we taught sufficiently in tier one to meet the needs of all of our students? What tier two supports will we need? How about tier three supports? In this lesson you will review the PLC process you learned about in the readings. Then you will look at student scores for a class you might have taught. Finally, you will meet with your PLC group to determine next steps.

READINGS

Before you meet as a PLC, review the following readings from previous lessons. Pay attention to how the PLC groups implement a process of reviewing student performance and setting goals.

Write down the answers the following questions about the readings before you meet with your PLC group.

  1. How does the PLC team work together? When do they work together? What do they discuss when they work together?
  2. What are the tier two supports in place for students who struggle? How do they determine who needs tier two supports?
  3. What are the tier three supports in place for students who struggle? How do they determine who needs tier three supports?
  4. How do they use a flexible schedule during the school day to address students' needs? How do they use a flexible schedule before or after school to meet students' needs?
