Instructions
This activity is designed to be completed as a group using a video conferencing room.
Who: Work with your Professional Learning Community group members.
What: Create a school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Plan. You will work together and submit one assignment as a group.
When: Meet at a time that works for your PLC group
Where: Meet online using your meeting room and work together using Collaborations. Invite the professor and TA at kaitlynrayneosborne@gmail.com and daylinkaywilliams@gmail.com to edit your Collaboration.
Why: Professional Learning Communities work together on supporting students academically as well as behaviorally. Management plans that are consistent across the school or in multiple classrooms are easier for students to understand and remember. If the behavior expectations are the same in all classrooms, PLC members can discuss students who need additional support to reach the behavior expectations. Common management plans are often called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports or PBIS.
Tasks
This activity is designed to be completed as a group in person or using a video conferencing tool. Do not break up the tasks and complete the sections individually unless advised to do so. Submit one assignment per group.

- Download this document Download document. Then copy and paste the table into a Google doc.
- Copy and paste the table into a Google doc. Go to Collaborations, create a new collaboration and title it "Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Plan." Copy and paste the information from the Word doc so your group can collaborate on it. One Collaboration per group.
- Invite the professor (Kaitlyn Osborne) and the TA (Crystal Summerhays) to your collaboration.
- Discuss your classroom expectations. Use your group's video conferencing room to discuss your expectations for classroom management. Are you generally a structured person who wants clear rules and expectations in a classroom or are you more flexible in your management style? What factors affect classroom management in your subject area (lots of transitions between activities, a lab setting, long periods of lecture, group work, etc.)
- Summarize your discussion on classroom expectations. As a PLC, using your knowledge of course readings, materials, and personal insight, write a summary about your discussion of your classroom expectations.
- Discuss the 3 school-wide behavior expectations. The school wide rules have been provided for you. They are...
We are responsible
We are respectful
We are safe
7. Decide specific classroom rules. Use your knowledge from course readings to work together and plan specific applications of your school rules to be used in your classroom. For each school rule, state at least one more specific classroom expectation. Your classroom expectations should reflect the specific needs of your course. Do you have a lot of transitions? Do you have a lot of group work? Do you get up and move around a lot? Do you sit for long periods of time? Make your classroom rules reflective of your specific environment. They must be specific and measurable and stated positively.
8. Decide 3–5 classroom procedures. Use your knowledge from course readings to determine at least 3 classroom procedures that will be taught and modeled to students in each group member's class. Again, these procedures should be specific to course needs. List the procedures with the steps students should follow when implementing the procedure.
9. Decide 3–5 methods of positive reinforcement. Use your knowledge of course readings to determine at least 3 methods of positive reinforcement you will use in your classroom to increase the likelihood of students engaging in your behavior expectations. List and discuss each method.
10. Decide 3–5 individualized strategies. Use your knowledge from classroom readings to determine a menu of 3–5 individualized behavior strategies that you could use to support any student who struggled to meet the classroom expectations for behavior. Summarize your reasons for choosing each strategy.
11. Discuss case study students. As a PLC, discuss your 4 case study students. Decide if you think they need individual supports to help them meet the behavior expectations in the classroom. Make your recommendations on your assignment.
