Makerspace Ideas
Now that you know what a makerspace is, check out the following sites. These have some great ideas for makerspace projects that you might do in your classroom or at home. Look through these for inspiration and to get ideas of what you might do yourself.
- Makerspaces.com Links to an external site.: The site that carries the name of the makerspace itself has links to books, materials, and projects. Check out the "Blog" link for seasonal projects you might do (HINT: you can use strips of tin foil in place of copper tape. Stick the foil to paper using clear tape (which will also insulate it from short circuits)).
- Science Buddies Links to an external site.: Many makerspaces focus on combining electronics and coding with physical objects. This site has many non-electronic projects to stimulate your creativity and curiosity.
- Instructables Links to an external site.: Step-by-step instructions for wired and non-wired projects. These community-provided guides are great for using off-the-shelf for many classroom projects. There are also many DIY project ideas that extend well beyond what you might do in the classroom.
- Gellacraft Links to an external site.: Sewable electronics! If you like to sew, this is a great site for getting ideas of simple projects.
- Makercamp Links to an external site.: This is a site for an actual camp that students and teachers participate in to learn to make things. But looking at their past projects is a great source of inspiration.
- Tech Will Save Us Links to an external site.: In addition to project ideas, this site provides actual kits that you can purchase to complete a maker project. So, if you're looking for all the parts you need without having to hunt around for them, this is a great place to visit.
