Teaching Assistants

BYU Online hires over 500 Teaching Assistants (TAs) each academic year to support the 250+ offered online courses. TAs are vital to student success and support and are trained with students in mind. We train TAs to communicate with instructors and students effectively, offer personalized advice and resources to the students, and grade efficiently.

Test Prep

Peer Mentors and Teaching Assistants help students develop skills and learn effective strategies for studying for and taking tests. They also help students assess gaps in content knowledge and create test-prep study plans.

Students can schedule a test prep meeting with a Peer Mentor or Teaching Assistant to:
• Learn effective study and test-taking strategies
• Create an exam preparation plan
• Review past exam performance to prepare for future exams

Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors are CRLA-trained university students who provide guidance and support. They help students develop study skills, offer personalized advice and motivation, and connect them with helpful resources. Regularly meeting with peer mentors can help students:

  • Develop academic success skills
  • Improve motivation and self-regulation
  • Boost confidence
  • Increase growth mindset and goal-setting skills

Academic Coaching

Academic Coaches are full-time professionals who have completed UCF Higher Education Coaching Academy training. Coaches can help students by:

  • Providing support to help students achieve their goals and navigate challenges
  • Connecting students to other applicable resources
  • Teaching skills to help students succeed throughout college

Online Learning Resources

Our online learning libraries are available 24/7 and contain information on campus resources, study skills, and test preparation. The library is continually expanding with new resources to help students strengthen their understanding of course content, learn about study strategies, gain mental health tips, and prepare for exams.
