Questions and Answers
Who can participate in Canvas training? May I attend if I teach a BYU Online course?
These training opportunites are open to all teachers at BYU-Provo. Teachers in BYU Online courses are welcome to participate, but should understand that this training is intended for teachers in on-campus, face-to-face classes and the information presented may be incomplete or inaccurate for Online classes.
Why do I need to register?
We ask that you register so we can anticipate numbers and, most importantly, so we can get you set-up with online resources ahead of class. (We like to use Canvas for our Canvas training!)
Can I cancel if my plans change after registering?
Yes - Just return to the registration form, and select 'Cancel' for the classes you will not be attending anymore.
Can I attend class remotely?
Yes - For this training series, we are making all classes available on Zoom. However, for all classes where classroom training is available, we recommend you attend in-person, if possible: It is much easier to be interactive and learn cooperatively when we are in the same room. All classes are held on the BYU-Provo Campus in the Tanner Building.
All remote Zoom links (for all classes) use the same Zoom room - Just enter the Zoom room shortly before class.
If I miss a class, what can I do?
For those who register to attend, recordings of most classes will be made available afterward (in Canvas) so class members may review content they attended or missed. To encourage live participation and keep content current, recording links are not provided for those who do not register and attend in-person or online at least once.
Is there an option for self-training?
Self-enrolled, self-guided training is available in the Growing With Canvas course - in Canvas. Just visit the course, click on the 'Join this course' button, and walk yourself through the modules. We still recommend live training, as it covers so much more information, particularly regarding teaching in Canvas at BYU.
