Dropped Grades on AIM Sync

BYU Canvas Info- GradesDropped Grades on AIM Sync

Why do grades drop after importing them from Canvas into AIM?

Sreenshot of gradebook

Canvas’s final grade column only factors in items that have been graded, and sothe final score displayed[1] is a summation of students’ completed work. This is helpful throughout the semester, because students and teachers are better able to keep track of student progress.

However, when grades are pulled from Canvas into AIM, anyassignments that have no inputted score are marked as 0’s[2], and the student’s grade drops based on their value.

Notice the discrepancy in the total grade values for the first and last students.

Please note that changing this setting in your gradebook WILL NOT update the student view, and they will continue to see the scores posted in the first screenshot. For them to have an accurate view of their standing in the class, all assignments that are late or not completed correctlymust be marked with a 0. An easy way to do this is by setting a default grade once a due date has passed for an assignment.

Set a default grade

Treat ungraded as zero

Once an assignment’s due date has passed, navigate to the grade book within Canvas. Select the dropdown arrow next to its name [1], and then click Set Default Grade[2].

Default grade field

In the score field, enter a 0 [1]. Leave overwrite already-entered grades unchecked. Then select Set Default Grade[2]. Ungraded students will receive a 0, and their grades will be updated. The overall grade will be more accurate.
