General Information

GoReact permits students to respond to prompts with videos (uploaded and directly recorded). The GoReact LTI for Canvas LMS permits teachers to set up course assignments to use GoReact, and permits students to submit GoReact assignments through Canvas.

GoReact Access for Teachers

GoReact is licensed for instructional use at Brigham Young University. Any teacher at BYU may use GoReact for instruction. This includes configuration and use of the GoReact LTI in Learning Suite and Canvas courses.

To use GoReact, teachers will need to follow instructions in GoReact’s documentation to create a GoReact account aligned with Brigham Young University and manage assignments either through GoReact’s web portal or inside their LMS course.

Using the GoReact LTI in Canvas LMS

To configure an assignment to use GoReact in Canvas LMS:

Create a new Canvas assignment

While editing assignment settings, select the submission type External Tool

Choose GoReact 2024 as the desired external tool. (Do not select the legacy version: This will be retired on August 1, 2024.)

Save your changes (by selecting the Save button)

Legacy Assignment Reconfiguration

Teachers using the Canvas GoReact LTI should note that GoReact is transitioning to a newer version of the LTI, and their previous version will be terminated on August 1, 2024. At that time, any existing assignments that were configured with the previous (‘legacy’) LTI will cease to work.

Action Required of Teachers with Assignments Configured before June 18, 2024

To avoid interruption with class assignments, teachers should take time between now and August 1 to reconfigure existing Canvas GoReact assignments to use the newer version of the LTI. Below are instructions on how to do this:

Log into Canvas and navigate to the course with GoReact assignments that need to be reconfigured

Select a GoReact assignment on the Assignments list.

Select the “Edit” button.

In the Submission Type area, select the External Tool option, as before

Select the Find button and choose the option GoReact 2024.

Save the new configuration by choosing Save (or Save and publish) at the bottom of the page.

Questions and Answers about LTI versions and reconfiguration

Why are there two versions of the GoReact LTI available in Canvas, and which one should I use?

GoReact has launched a new version of their LTI and will be retiring the previous version in Summer of 2024. Assignments configured in Canvas with one version (legacy or new) of the LTI are not compatible with the other. We are providing continued access to both LTIs, so teachers have an extended window to reconfigure existing assignments during the summer, without disrupting assignments that use the legacy LTI.

The legacy GoReact LTI will be removed entirely on August 1, 2024, and assignments configured to use that version will not work until they are reconfigured to use the new LTI.

Are students impacted by the LTI upgrade?

Not directly: Students will not need to take any action to continue using GoReact during the transition to the new LTI. Their teachers, however, will.
