For this discussion, do the following:
- Read Module 3.1
- Find Teacher Websites in your Content Area. Locate and spend a few minutes reviewing at least three different websites from teachers in your content area. You can usually find links to teachers' websites linked from somewhere on their school's website. Look around a little! Don't just Google, "English teacher's website." We don't want everyone to look at the same 10 websites! Be prepared to show and talk in small groups about one or more of the websites you found. As you review each website, consider the following?
- How easy is it to find important information on the website?
- How well does the website support collaboration?
- How well does it protect student privacy if needed?
- Who appears to be the intended audience for this website?
- What subject(s) and grade level(s) does the teacher teach?
- Can you tell which tool the teacher used to build their website? (If the teacher is using a free subscription, you can often tell by looking at the URL. For example, Wix sites have ".wixsite.com" in the URL; Google sites have "sites.google.com" in the URL; and wordpress sites end in ".wordpress.com.")
- Become Familiar with Zoom Breakout rooms. Read through this brief article about participating in Breakout rooms in Zoom. You will be participating in a Breakout Room as part of this online discussion.
-
Meet online during our regular class time to show each other the websites you reviewed, to discuss what elements or features you would like to incorporate into your websites, and to receive some basic information about tools you may use to complete your website project. This meeting will be done synchronously on the web, so please arrange your schedules to attend. Also, please be sure to remind your discussion facilitator to give you the access code for this quiz.
